You’ve seen me discuss ergonomics as it relates to dispatch furniture sit-to-stand design, however there are other things that people often miss when evaluating dispatch furniture.

First, let’s just agree that dispatch furniture with an adjustable work surface is preferable to a fixed work surface whether it be an adjustable flat desktop, or split desktop with separately operating keyboard and monitor surfaces. Standing Room Only Revisited

I recently did an entry on how much I liked my office desk with an electrical lift that allows me to stand while working. Well, I should have added that something else became evident immediately and that’s the relative position of the monitor to the keyboard. I lifted the desktop with keyboard to a comfortable working height; however I found that I also had to lift the monitor to a comfortable height. In order to do this, I placed all manner of “things” under the monitor. Well, that worked out all right, but then when I lowered the desktop to a comfortable sitting height, the monitor was too high. So, you still don’t agree that a power adjustable flat desktop that lifts the entire dispatch console is superior to a split-level desktop with separately controlled power adjustments. After all, so many users can’t be wrong! Alright, then let me add that Americon makes the best split-level dispatch console on the market. But, how can that be after what I’ve just said against the split-level concept? Are Split-Level Dispatch Consoles Really Superior?

It’s no secret that the dispatch industry favors a sit-stand operator console with a split-level desktop and separately controlled monitor and keyboard surfaces. This is the paradigm for the dispatch industry that most operators and managers have never questioned and I see it in the specifications for just about every dispatch console project that I quote. Although, we manufacture the best split-level dispatch workstation on the market, we do not necessarily subscribe to the belief that the split-level design is the safest and best ergonomic solution.
