FEMA Selects Americon for Emergency Management Training Furniture

The annual federal government push to implement their end of fiscal year budgets is now over. It’s that time of year that has all of us engaged in providing federal agencies with design solutions and proposals to be executed by the end of September. Among the planned purchases we received this year is a large Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) acquisition of 70 Americon Communicator consoles for FEMA’s emergency manager training center in Maryland. Domtar Selects Americon Console for Recovery Boiler Operation

Domtar, a leading manufacturer of sustainable paper products, has ordered a customized Americon control room console for its operation in Arkansas. I enjoyed working with the Domtar project manager for about a year on a design and implementation schedule that met their planned migration from an older control system. As is the case for many manufacturers who are modernizing their systems, not all of the older equipment can be replaced initially. Continue reading

Americon Receives Contract from Shell International for Control Room Consoles

I have to say it’s been a great week. Shell International selected us to provide a custom control room console solution for new plant operations in Texas. Weeks ago, Shell engaged me to do an analysis of their planned console floor plan to come up with a similar solution that met specific budgetary requirements. The project involved six large U-shaped consoles with rotating binder storage between each console. Continue reading

Comcast Operations Center Highlights Americon Control Room Consoles and Video

What a surprise to find an on-line resume and project brief by Ted Lango, a former Comcast customer in the Atlanta area. Ted and I worked together a few years ago to bring his Regional Operations Center (ROC) into being. He brought the vision and we did our part to make his new operations center the most sophisticated operation of its type in the US. I invite you to connect with Ted Lango for interesting insight on how he conceived and executed the project. Continue reading

Escambia Operating Company Chooses Americon Control Room Consoles for Energy Operations Center

Hooray! Another contract has come our way to do a custom control room console design for an energy company. This project, located in Alabama for Eagle Rock Energy, was a design challenge because the console had to be configured in a way that would allow their operators to monitor both new and old systems at the same time as they transitioned from 1960 technology. This meant that this 30’ long totally custom console had to be designed for new hardware and in a way that allows the operator to move freely around the room to operate older console systems that will be on-line for an indefinite period. Continue reading

US Navy selects Americon to Outfit New Emergency Ops Center in the Pacific

I’m pleased to announce that the US Navy has awarded a contract to Americon to provide custom control room furniture for a new Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on the Pacific island of Guam. Americon will be one of 11 team members selected to provide a variety of furniture products for the new facility scheduled to open in 2013. The contract is the culmination of almost two years of project consultation, space planning and product evaluation. The Navy selected Americon’s Communicator workstations customized to meet functional requirements and space constraints within the new facility. Continue reading

US Air Force Chooses Americon Control Room Furniture for Test Pilot School

This photo of a recent control room console and video project just came in from another satisfied customer who cared enough to send the photo.

This project includes our custom OMNI control room furniture, large screen displays and the electronics integration that goes with them. Actually, we did two identical control rooms at the same time. The logo panels on the wall were done of the same materials as our console furniture. Although not clearly visible, the monitors are attached individual adjustable arms and the tower CPUs are stored in the base behind doors. Continue reading

The Best Split-Level Dispatch Console You Can Buy

So, you still don’t agree that a power adjustable flat desktop that lifts the entire dispatch console is superior to a split-level desktop with separately controlled power adjustments. After all, so many users can’t be wrong! Alright, then let me add that Americon makes the best split-level dispatch console on the market. But, how can that be after what I’ve just said against the split-level concept? True, we are not big believers in split-level dispatch consoles, however we make them in order to remain competitive and maintain our position in the growing dispatch console industry. Continue reading

Are Split-Level Dispatch Consoles Really Superior? – Part 2

To recap, I don’t believe that a dispatch console with a split-level desktop and separately controlled power adjustment is as practical, or ergonomic as a power adjustable flat desktop.

I favor a full-lift system with a single flat, deep desktop with a steel integrated slatwall and adjustable monitor arms. This approach provides maximum adjustability of the monitors and eliminates the pinch point dangers inherent when movable surfaces meet, or cross. Continue reading

New Project Photo – Data Center Network Operations

I’m always excited to see photos of newly completed control room projects because they mean another satisfied customer.

This photo was taken on installation day before the hardware was installed. The project is for a health care institution in San Diego, CA and includes the control room consoles in the photo as well as matching consoles placed on the opposite wall. I hope to receive another photo to share when the consoles are fully outfitted. Specific to this project are our OMNI linear consoles with customized configurations and adjustable corner consoles for sit-stand. Continue reading
